Thônes boasts the most exhilarating and impressive via ferrata in the Annecy area!
Also known as “La Roche à l’Agathe,” the Thônes via ferrata offers a breathtaking view of the village, famously known as the “capital of Reblochon.” From below, the route looks truly imposing!
A short 15-minute walk leads to the start of the Thônes via ferrata. After a few easy meters, you’ll encounter the first challenge: the Monkey Bridge: it’s short but guaranteed to wake you up! The rest of the route, while quite steep, is generally manageable. Indeed, vertical sections are brief, and you quickly gain altitude. You might even spot mountain goats grazing on nearby ledges. Then you pass the escape route.
The highlight of the Thônes via ferrata is the choice between an inverted ladder, offering easy climbing with panoramic views, or an overhanging section that will test your arm strength. Of course, your guide will help you choose the right option. Then the route continues with a series of easier passages through sculpted limestone rock, leading to the summit. The panorama of the stunning Thônes valley and surrounding mountains is simply breathtaking!
From the summit, a steep descent quickly returns you to the starting point.
For this challenging via ferrata, groups are limited to four people. You can choose between a morning ascent (recommended in summer) or an afternoon departure. All technical equipment is provided.
Special offer: Enjoy a 10% discount for groups of four.
If this via ferrata seems too demanding, I recommend checking out La Clusaz via ferrata.
